  2. Synonyms are words with the same meaning. We use synonyms to make a sentence more interesting. NPS By Mrs. T

  3. Repeating one word can get boring. This is why synonyms are used.For example: The cat is large. The cat is big. Big and large are synonyms. The words mean the same thing. When writing a sentence we can replace a word with its synonym. NPS By Mrs. T

  4. Look at this sentence. We played with the kids. The word kids, has more than one synonym. Can you think of one? NPS By Mrs. T

  5. We played with the kids. We played with the children. We played with the family. If you said children then you are correct! You might also say family if the kids were from the same family. NPS By Mrs. T

  6. Now, let’s practice together. Read the story on the next page. Rewrite the story by replacing each underlined word with a word in the box that means about the same thing. NPS By Mrs. T

  9. Sometimes we do not know the meaning of a word so we must use context clues to help us figure out what the word might mean to find a synonym. We can figure out from this sentence that a migraine makes Amber’s head hurt. We can look at our possible answers to find out which word would make the most sense to make Amber’s head hurt.
