  3. Making the Connection Let’s read the story of The Three Little Pigs to see how synonyms work.

  4. The Three Little Pigs Once upon a time there lived three littlepigs. They were very happy. But one fine day, their father asked them to leave home. They were growing older, and he wished for the three to go out on their own. The three were shocked! How could they leave their father’s house. It was so large and comfortable. Do you know what the underlined words mean?

  5. Let’s try reading the same story with some new words in place of the underlined words. Once upon a time there lived three diminutiveswine. They were very elated. But one splendidday, their father requested that they depart. They were growing older, and he wished for the trioto go out on their own. The three were stunned! How could they leave their father’s residence? It was so vast and comfortable. Look at the new underlined words. These words are synonyms for the underlined words in the first version of The Three Little Pigs.
