WCOA HALL OF FAME 2nd CLASS • WCOA Hall Of Fame Criteria • A past or present member demonstrating the highest standards of ethical conduct, integrity, moral character, and professionalism in the community for past members and possibly having continuously performed distinguished service and leadership to the association, for current members in the West Coast Officials Association. • 2. In addition to years served nominee must have made a worthy physical and/or mental • contribution to the West Coast Officials Association during his time of membership. Longevity • without significant contribution or achievements does not constitute credentials for • consideration. • 3. Nominee may be living or a deceased member. • 4. Nominee must have served as a West Coast Officials Association Board Member, Officer, • functioning committee post or directorship or some position of service such as Rules • interpreter, for example. Distinguished contributions by any member should be considered • as eligible. The board category could be a point in a nominees favor if a tie vote is involved. • 5. Nominee must have been a West Coast Officials Association member for a minimum of twenty • (20) years. Consideration will be given for extenuating circumstances.

Hall of Fame • Jerry Lambert Football/Basketball Official • West Coast Officials Association (WCOA), Tampa, Florida, July 1976 to 2007 (31 years) • Member – West Coast Umpires Association (WCUA), Tampa, Florida, July 1976 to 1989 • Member – Florida High School Activities Association (FHSAA), Gainesville, Florida, July 1976 to 2007 • Charter Member – National Association of Sports Officials (NASO), Racine, Wisconsin, 1976 to 2007 • Offices Held, WCOA – President 8 years, Wrestling VP 4 years, Basketball VP 4 years, Football Sports Committee Member, • Basketball Sports Committee Member, Basketball Asssignment Committee Member, Football Sports Committee Member, • Football Recommendation Committee Memeber and Wrestling Booking Commissioner for 10 years. • Offices Held, WCUA – Umpire in Chief 6 years and Board Member for 8 years. • Officiated – High School Football 1976 to 2006. Served as Referee for Varsity crew since 1985. Worked 38 Playoff assignments, • Clock Operator for 1977 2A State Championship, Referee for 1990 3A , 1994 6A, 1998 2A and 2004 2A State Championship. • Officiated – High School Basketball 1976 to 2005. Worked Varsity assignments since 1978. Worked 62 Boys District Tournament • Playoff assignments since 1985, 28 Boys Regional Tournament Playoff assignments and 10 Boys State Tournament Playoff • assignments, including 1989 2A, 1995 6A, 1999 6A and 2005 1A State Championship Game. • Worked 23 Girls District Tournament Playoff assignments since 1983, 6 Girls Regional Tournament Playoff assignments and • Girls State Tournament Playoff assignments,1983 4A and 1994 3A State Championship Games. • Also officiated Men’s Junior College Basketball in the Suncoast Conference and Women’s Division II Basketball in the Sunshine • State Conference for several years. • Gerald Joseph "Jerry" Lambert, known to his friends as "The Cajun,"

Hall of Fame • Richard Calhoun Basketball Official • Basketball Official for 29 years • 22 years in High School Football Officiating with WCOA) •  5 State Championship assignments • 2 terms on WCOA’s Basketball Committee in charge of ratings • Encouraged varsity officials to fill out evaluation cards, • (drawing one card every meeting to win 2 dinners to local restaurants) • Encouraged JV officials to request evaluation from person working the • varsity game behind them. I also drew a card out of the pile for some • JV grub. Food is an incentive. The number of cards turned increased • nearly 300%. • Served as a clinician while moving up at the half day clinics. • Worked several District and Regional games and worked 5 State Finals. • Throwing the ball up on the last one is something I’ll always remember.

Hall of Fame Jim Eckler Football/Basketball Official • Moved to Florida in 1994, unable to locate information on how to join • an association, drove to Gainesville, the FHSAA office, registered, and • obtained WCOA’s Jim Drapp’s phone number. • Started as a rank 3 official, promoted to a 4 mid-year and to a 5 at year end • Worked my first high school game with Leo Sykes and worked my first • regional my first year with Clyde Trathowen. • President Clem Brooks asked me if I would be training director for • WCOA. I served as training director for the next 3 years. • Later in the year, Clem asked if I would serve the remainder of term • as a member of the Basketball Committee (board) and I served for a • total of 15 years as director and one year as VP. • 1998 Worked 6A state finals with Jeff Albers and Alvin Holder. • Worked 7 seasons as a WCOA football official. • The original Web-Master for WCOA and WCOA’s Basketball rules answer man.

Leadership Conference Notes • CorrectingTheFHSAACentralHub • DatabaseInformation • Your data as an official will be imported by the Arbiter • into the FHSAA Central Hub database • If the data is wrong for your years of experience, etc. • notify the Vice President of your sport and they will • compile and send a single email to the FHSAA to correct • the errors • The FHSAA does NOT want to receive numerous individual • emails from every official who has an issue with their data

Leadership Conference Notes • NoNFHSHardCopyRules Books • You will no longer receive a hard copy printed version • of the rules book, mechanics book and case book • All of these references are available via the FHSAA • Central Hub Arbiter page under the “Publications” tab • as electronic PDF files • You will have access to every NFHS rules book, mechanics • book and case book for every sport

Leadership Conference Notes • RulesTestsForEachSport • The rules exam for each sport will be located under the • “Test” tab on the FHSAA Central Hub Arbiter page • There will no longer be a 75 minute time limit • Instead, you will have all the days of the testing window • to take the exam and answer as many or as few questions • at a time as you like each day • Just DONOT select the “SUBMIT” button until you are • truly done with the entire test

Leadership Conference Notes • FieldClinicsAreGone • There will no longer be field clinics for each sport • The FHSAA will be injecting their own designated curriculum • into every association’s planned training sessions • for each sport • One such example is an officials’ clinic to be held on • Saturday August 12th at Plant High School featuring • FHSAA designated classroom sessions followed by • scrimmages involving 14 teams (7 quarters)

Leadership Conference Notes • YourRaiseWasVetoed • A proposal passed on it’s second reading by the Officials • Advisory Committee that would have increased the • maximum official’s game fee by $3 every 3 years. • The proposal was unwisely tied into to a raise justified • by the need to do evaluations. • The FHSAA Executive Board vetoed the need for a • raise to justify evaluations, for they felt evaluations are • going to happen regardless

Lanness Robinson Notes • MUST know your Lawson number to report to the school in order to get paid • No Lawson number means you will get placed on the county’s No Pay and No Assign List • Lawson numbers are a vendor number that you use instead of your Social Security number which helps protect you from identity theft

Lanness Robinson Notes • Game reports are VERY important to him • Issues are addressed with the school if we raise them • Reports need to be veryspecific and submitted promptly to get the problems addressed immediately • He needs to know the exact school and problem • If there is a particular issue the game report doesn’t cover, email that to VP of Football or Basketball and they will summarize the emails received each week into a single email to Lanness
