MUPS Anomally, July-Aug 2009 • Timing: Cycle 11 targets approved, BUT not yet reviewed or in the ObsCat • Initial Actions: • No MUPS firing → restricted pointing, need larger target pool • Ingest Cycle 11 GO targets to ObsCat rapidly • Start IPPS process early (requests PI/Observers to check high-level pars) • Signed-off, unconstrained targets made available to MP • Announcement: website + bulletin #86 • warned observers of chance of early observation, request quick response if contacted • PI Non-response: USINT and CDO to approve observation • No detailed announcement, knowledge of situation evolving rapidly ChandraUsers’ Committee, 29-30 Oct 2009 Chandra Director’s Office
MUPS Anomally, July-Aug 2009 (cont) • Subsequent Action: • Pitch angle restricted to >130 deg, small target pool • MP: identified unconstrained targets in required pitch range • USINT: contact PIs/Observers for detailed parameter check for observation readiness • All Clear: • Normal operations resumed immediately • IPPS process continued • CDO final checks of constrained/complex targets completed • CDO handover to USINT proceeded as usual ChandraUsers’ Committee, 29-30 Oct 2009 Chandra Director’s Office
