James Wright Silly Putty Invention By: Jordin Neathery
Who invented it? • Silly Putty was invented by a man named James Wright in 1943.
James Wright During World War II, James Wright was working for the General Electric laboratories and had produced a synthetic, pliable rubber that was cheap and useful for a lot of small jobs as a caulking and molding medium. With the war over, a large supply existed, and no one seemed to have any idea what to do with it. Mr. Hodgson came up with one idea. He bought a large amount, put it into plastic eggs, and sold it to children under the name Silly Putty. Kids like us could use it to make spiders and snakes, we could where it on our faces at Halloween, and even lift comic-strip pictures right off the pages of the Sunday newspaper.
Why was it invented? • There is no reason why it was invented, because James Wright was doing an experiment and mixed some chemicals that made bouncy putty also known as silly putty.
Reasons • Good reasons: One good thing about silly putty is you can take it any where and you can stretch it, mold it, and bounce it. Silly Putty is also water proof. • Bad reasons: One bad thing about silly putty is it can get dirty if you bounce it to much.
Sizes and Colors • Silly Putty comes in many different sizes. It comes in big eggs, small eggs, and medium eggs. • Silly Putty also comes in different colors like Orange, Silver, Blue, Pink, and Gold.
