  1. Welcome to ATC-World History Mr. Spivey A203

  2. Classroom Rules • Show respect to everyone. • Be seated before the bell rings. • Arrive to class prepared everyday. • No food or drinks in the technology classroom. (except bottled water)

  3. When you arrive… • Be respectful. • Be in your seat before the bell rings. • Copy your homework into your student handbook. GET ORGANIZED! • Pay close attention to the “Do Now” part of the lesson. • Work on your M.A.P. Moment.

  4. M.A.P. Moments • Will be completed EVERY day in World History. • You will complete them at the beginning of each class period. • These activities will be graded at anytime, so you must keep them current. • Make up replies can be completed during Seminar or in tutoring.

  5. Tardies • Being on time is an essential life skill. • Make arrangements to avoid being tardy. • Take care of your personal business before class. • 3 tardies = detention • 4 tardies = referral • 6 tardies = Saturday detention

  6. Homework • Will be collected at the beginning of the period. Completed homework 50% Completed classroom notes 50% • Must include all notes taken from classroom discussion. (50% rule) • Must have name clearly written on it. (0% rule)

  7. Leaving your Seat • Raise your hand before leaving your seat. • Do not ask to leave the classroom. • Do not ask to have your assigned seat changed.

  8. Forbidden items in the classroom • Food and candy • Drinks (excepted bottled water) • Gum • Touching Blinds • Touching Monitors.

  9. Turning in Assignments Suzie Student August 18, 2008 Period B5 • Make sure you have your name, date, and class period on everything you turn in. • Do not use red ink.

  10. What you need to bring EVERYDAY! • Your textbook (ADVANCED ONLY) • Your student handbook • Something to write with. • Paper or notebook • 3 ½ inch floppy disk or Flash Drive • Make sure you are WEARING your Student I.D.

  11. Grade Breakdown • Unit Tests, Projects, Performance Events, Essays, and Presentations account for 70% of your class grade. • Homework, Classwork, Quizzes, and Daily M.A.P. Moments account for 30% of your class grade.

  12. Social Studies Department Scoring Guide for Independent Practice 4: Student demonstrates proficiency on at least 90% of items. 3: Student demonstrates proficiency on at least 80% of items. 2: Student demonstrates proficiency on at least 70% of items. 1: Student demonstrates proficiency on at least 60% of items. 0: Student demonstrates proficiency on 50% or fewer of items.

  13. How your grades are figured • Using the Social Studies Department Scoring Guide your grade will be assigned based off of the following scale: • A 3.8- 4.0 • A- 3.5- 3.7 • B+ 3.1- 3.4 • B 2.8- 3.0 • B- 2.5- 2.7 • C+ 2.1- 2.4 • C 1.8- 2.0 • C- 1.5- 1.7 • D+ 1.1- 1.4 • D 0.8- 1.0 • D- 0.7 • F 0.6 and below.

  14. When you are absent… • Come see me during Seminar period to get the assignment and notes that you missed. • If you are absent one day, then you have one day to make up your work in my class. • Remember 10 unexcused or 15 total absences will result in failure of any class.

  15. Social Studies Department Policy Regarding a “0” • If a student receives a “0” he/she must complete the missing or incorrect assignment during after-school tutoring. • Students can earn a maximum of a “2” for made-up (late, missing, or incomplete) assignment. • Student has until the end of the quarter to make up assignment (unless suspended) • Students that are suspended out of school will be given the opportunity to make up missed assignments. Students will be given the same amount of time they were suspended to make up work.

  16. Thinkwave • You receive a code which allows you to set up a login name and password. • You can instantly check your grade and attendance online. • Login at home, or next time in class.

  17. Progress Profile • All returned assignments will a grade in RED INK if not, I haven’t graded it. • Keep all work returned to you.

  18. Extra Credit • I give extra credit assignments at least once per quarter. • Can also be earned through attendance at Study Sessions (the day before each chapter test).

  19. Effort Warning • Turn in 80% of your assignments over a 5-week period • You must give your best effort every day(staying awake, paying attention, being prepared, etc.) • If you have not met these requirements you will be placed on effort warning

  20. Effort Suspension • Inability to turn in 80% of assignments over 2 consecutive 5-week periods • Inability to be prepared for class 80% of the time for 2 cons. 5-week periods • As a result you cannot play sports or participate/attend any school sponsored activities. (for two classes)

  21. Fire Drills • Signal is a continuous ringing of fire bells. • Keep all personal belongings in the classroom. • Stay calm • Turn left and head for the Upper A activity field.

  22. Tornado Drills • Signal is a high and low tone over the speaker. • Calmly exit into the hallway. • Position yourself kneeling along the walls of the hallway. • Cover your head.

  23. Intercom Messages • Pay attention to all messages over the intercom. • Daily announcements are meant to be heard by the entire student body.

  24. Seminar Visits • Do NOT come to my class without something to work on. • You are NOT allowed to come to my classroom to work on assignments for other classes. • Get in, Get out, Get going.

  25. Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) Tips on how to maintain computer privileges throughout the school year.

  26. What is an Acceptable Use Policy? • An explanation of the classroom, school, and district policies on using the Internet • A description of the purpose of the Internet in this classroom • A description of how I expect you to treat the computers in the classroom • An agreement between you and the school district

  27. The internet is NOT to be used for • Pornographic sites • Chat rooms • Checking e-mail • Inappropriate text files • Harassing other students • Hate mail • Discriminatory remarks • Viewing sites other than ones that I have directed you to

  28. The internet IS to be used for • Making school work more fun • Putting you in charge of your own learning • Allowing you to explore ideas from around the world • Making school more meaningful for you • Increasing your academic achievement

  29. Consequences of Violating AUP • Loss of Computer privileges. • Failure of current assignment. • Parental contact. • Student referred to the Dean’s office. • Removal from technology classroom.

  30. Treatment of Computers • Do not tamper with equipment • The computers are not yours or mine. • Do not alter programs in any way • Do not install new programs without authorization from me • Do not touch the monitors
