  2. Bad Behavior: You do the Math • 1. You have 90 days of class to learn all of world history. With assemblies and testing you will actually end up with only 75 days of class time. If each class is 90 minutes how many hours of class time do you have to learn all of world history? • Solve: • 2. Studies show that up to 50% of class time can be lost due to student misbehavior. Based on the hours of classroom above, how many hours of learning will you lose to misbehavior? • Solve:

Entering class • Enter silently, pick up handouts and/or turn in homework in homework box (late homework in late homework box) then proceed to your assigned seat. • Sharpen your pencil before the final bell, and be in your seat before the bell goes off. • Take out all supplies. The supplies list will be posted on the board (you should not have to open your bag later in class). • Turn OFF cell phone and place in bag or purse. • Place ALL purses, bags, backpacks and other personal belongings on the floor under your desk . • Start warm up, log objective and homework in trackers. • (if student forgets materials they can be borrowed from teacher but will result in an automatic deduction from participation grade Object borrowed must be logged in book).

  6. During Class • Do not speak: while peer is speaking, while Mrs.Botelho is giving instruction, or during silent reading/work time. There will be plenty of time to speak during class Mrs.Botelho will inform you when that time has come. • Maintaining attention: • All students must display active learning position to be considered as participants in class. This includes: • o Sitting up straight and facing forward • o Engaged in current activity • o Track speaker with your eyes • o Desk cleared of personal items • Never put your head down on the desk • Raising hands: • Always raise your hand to contribute to class discussion or get teachers attention. Do not raise your hand during verbal instruction from Mrs.Botelho.

  7. End of Class • End of Class • Dismissal • o Students will NOT stand up when the bell rings or pack up their belongings. They must wait until Mrs. Botelho formally dismisses them. • o No student will be dismissed from class until all the following are complete • 1. Each student must clean up their desk and floor area completely • 2. Rows must be straight • 3.Every student must be seated • o Upon leaving class student must turn in exit ticket in the exit ticket box.

Writing and College Readiness • Writing: Writing is the means by which students are evaluated at least to some degree in nearly every postsecondary course Expository, descriptive, and persuasive writing are particularly important types of writing in college Students are expected to write a lot in college and to do so in relatively short periods of time Students need to know how to pre-write, how to edit, and how to re-write a piece before it is submitted and, often, after it has been submitted once and feedback has been provided College writing requires students to present arguments clearly, substantiate each point, and utilize the basics of a style manual when constructing a paper College-level writing is largely free of grammatical, spelling, and usage errors. • Research: College courses increasingly require students to be able to identify and utilize appropriate strategies and methodologies to explore and answer problems and to conduct research on a range of questions To do so, students must be able to evaluate the appropriateness of a variety of source material and then synthesize and incorporate the material into a paper or report They must also be able to access a variety of types of information from a range of locations, formats, and source environments.
