THE FACULTY • The Faculty of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences is among the most complex Faculties within the University of Bologna because it involves many different scientific areas: • Mathematics • Physics and Astronomy • Chemistry • Computer Science • Biology • Geology • Natural Sciences • Environmental Sciences • Science for Conservation of Cultural Heritage The Faculty is composed of 409 faculty members: 124 full professors, 128 associate professors and 157 assistant professors. There are about 5500 students attending the faculty’s 2008/2009 academic year.

MULTICAMPUS Bologna has adopted a Multicampus structure in order to permit the diffusion of educational offering and the activation of a stabile research activity on the premises with the intent to better the functionality and quality of university community life. The Faculty of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences based in Bologna has courses also in the campus of Ravenna and Cesena. The Ravenna Campus represents a point of excellence in the studies of preservation, protection and appreciation of cultural heritage, archeology, restoration on one hand and the awareness of the environment and the promotion of environmental quality, law, relations with eastern European and Mediterranean nations, regional planning, and of urban design and health on the other. http://www.tecore.unibo.it/http://didattica.ambra.unibo.it/ The Cesena Campus of the Faculty has always hosted the area of Computer Sciences http://www.csr.unibo.it/

DEGREE COURSES The Faculty is made up of many Degree Courses divided into 14 first Level Degrees and 15 second Level or Master Degree Courses: http://www.eng.unibo.it/PortaleEn/Academic+programmes/Courses/MathematicalSciences/1stDegree/ http://www.eng.unibo.it/PortaleEn/Academic+programmes/Courses/MathematicalSciences/2ndDegree/ Undergrate students have access to 1st Level Degree Courses which last 3 years during and for which it is necessary to obtain 180 credits. Graduate students can apply for the 2nd Level Degree Courses which last 2 years and require the acquisition of 120 credits. SCIENCE FOR CONSERVATION OF CULTURAL HERITAGE This is an International PhD funded by European Marie Curie Actions: http://www.episcon.scienze.unibo.it/episcon All doctorate schools have a duration of three years and consist mainly of laboratory and research activities and very few lectures.   9. ADMISSION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS ADMISSIONS TESTS IONS TESTS To be admitted to a course a student must pass an Italian language proficiency test and a cultural test. Moreover, the Faculty of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences requires admission tests to courses which are aimed at an orientation for the students and not a limitation for admission. The date of the Italian language and culture test is normally at the beginning of September.  To be admitted to the test, on the day of the test itself the student must show his/her passport and entry visa for study reasons or his/her residence permit, or the receipt issued by police headquarters for application for the residence permit.  A candidate waiting for the residence permit shall be admitted to the tests with reserve.Students can enrol only once they have passed the tests. ENROLMENT FEES 1st level degrees: about 1,400 euros 2nd level degrees: about 2,000 euros

REGISTRATION Registration for the University of Bologna can be done on-line www.almawelcome.unibo.it or students can go to one of the several Almawelcome points, where they can find assistance and information.To be able to use the on-line service, students must be provided with a codice fiscale (tax registration number). For students abroad, this tax registration number can be applied for at the Italian Embassy-Consulate offices.For students already in Italy, this tax registration number should be applied for at the local Tax Agency Office.
