  1. Pg. 16Question: Do different brands of gum affect the diameter of a bubble that has been blown?

  2. Hypothesis: • If you chew four pieces of gum, then the __________ brand will make the biggest bubble because…

  3. Materials Needed: • Each group needs: • Gum: Orbit (sf); Bubble Yum; Super Bubble; Double Bubble • Ruler • Beaker tongs

  4. Procedure: • Take four pieces of different kinds of gum. • Each student chews a piece for three minutes. During the last minute, practice making bubbles. • Students will blow a bubble and measure, then record the results in a data table. Pair up to measure the diameter of your bubble (in cm). Use the beaker tongs and a ruler.

  5. Create a Graph: • Using the graph paper provided, create a graph. Make sure the graph includes the following features and rules. • Title • X – Axis Label • Y – Axis Label • Intervals (make sure they are equal) • Key or legend

Bubble Gum Lab Analysis:On a separate sheet, answer the following questions in complete sentences • Which gum had the biggest bubble? • Which gum had the smallest bubble? • What was the independent variable? • What was the dependent variable? • What did you control in this experiment? • What did you not control?

  9. Conclusion: • In a paragraph (five sentences) Tell which gum had the biggest bubble. Decide if you support or reject your hypothesis and explain. • Also, explain what errors your team may have made and how you could make this a more controlled experiment.
