  2. Early Life • Born in London on 21st April 1926. • Father was Prince Albert. • Mother Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon. • Born third in line to the throne.

  3. World War II • Educated at home in Windsor Castle during the Blitz in 1940. • In 1945 the young Princess joined the war effort training as a driver in the Women's Auxiliary Territorial Service.

  4. Princess, Wife, and Mother • Married in 1947 to distant cousin Philip Mountbatten. • The Princess used ration coupons to buy materials to make her wedding dress. • They had four children. • Their first born child was Prince Charles in 1948.

  5. From Princess to Queen • Following the death of her father King George VI in 1952, Princess Elizabeth became the new Queen. • After months of preparation, Queen Elizabeth II was crowned at Westminster Abbey on the 2nd June 1953 • This was televised and the huge public celebrations were broadcast across the country, the Commonwealth, and the rest of the world!

  6. Queens Silver Jubilee 1977 • The Queen celebrates 25 years as Queen • Bonfires were lit in celebration • People held street parties

  7. The 1980s onwards • The UK went to war over the Falkland islands • Prince Andrew, served with the Royal Navy as a helicopter pilot.

  8. Queens Golden Jubilee 2002 • Celebrated 50 years as Queen • Sad time for The Queen • Street party’s held to celebrate the jubilee

  9. The Queens at 80 • Children’s party in the palace • Opens her birthday post on April 21st • Birthday celebration on April 19th

  10. The Queens Diamond Jubilee 2012 • Thames diamond jubilee pageant • BBC concert at Buckingham Palace
