  1. Molecules Around Me Jordan Salmon

  2. Health Care/Medicinal • Ibuprofen 800 mg tablet. • Ingredients • Isobutyl phenyl (propionic acid) • Colloidal Silicon Dioxide • Magnesium Stearate • Microstyalline cellulose • Croscarmellose sodium

  3. Isobutyl phenyl • Molecular formula • C13H18O2 Isobutyl phenyl is a white powder Slightly soluble in water, used as An anti inflammatory agent. This is an organic compound

  4. Colloidal Silicon Dioxide • Molecular Formula • SiO2 In nature it exist as a sand, but in medicine it is used as an absorbent, or as a glider that allows the powder from the tablet to flow freely.

  5. Magnesium Stearate • Molecular Formula • C18H35O2 It is a salt that is ‘generally’ safe for humans. It is used in many medical tablets as a dilutant. This is an organic compound.

  6. Microstyalline Cellulose • Molecular Formula • C6H10O5 Used as an anti-caking agent in vitamins and other medical tablets. It is an organic compound.

  7. Croscarmellose Sodium • Molecular Formula • C12H10Ca3O144H2O Use as a dissolution in medical products.

  8. Personal Hygiene • Axe deodorant • Ingredients • Propylene Glycol • Propylene Glycol • Sodium Stearate • Poloxamine 1307 • Amino methyl Propanol

  9. Propylene Glycol • Molecular Formula • C3H8O2 What the specific purpose of this I cannot exactly find, but I found it was interesting that long term exposure of this chemical can cause damage to the human skin. Organic.

  10. Sodium Stearate • Molecular Formula • C18H35NaO2 It is used to aid solubility of hydrophobic compounds. Organic.

  11. Poloxamine 1307 • Molecular Formula • Unable to find I read that this is very controversial and actually causes major health concern.

  12. Amino Methyl Propanol • Molecular Formula • C4H11NO2 Acts as a pH adjuster. Organic, this also causes some health concerns.

  13. Amino methyl propanol Molecular formula C4H11NO • Used to control the pH level in the product

  14. Food/Supplements • Wrigley's Extra Chewing gum • Ingredients • Acesulfame K • Aspartame • Maltitol • Sucralose • Sorbitol

  15. Acesulfame K • Molecular Formula • C4H4KNO4S Used as a no calorie artificial Sweetener. Organic.

  16. Aspartame • Molecular Formula • C14H18N2O5 Used as a saccharide free sweetener. Organic.

  17. Maltitol • Molecular Formula • C12h24O11 This is also used as a sugar free artificial sweetener. Organic

  18. Sucralose • Molecular Formula • C12H19Cl3O8 • Sucralose is an artificial sweetener, interestingly though, it cannot be broken down by the human body. Organic.

  19. Sorbitol • Molecular Formula • C6H14O6 Sorbitol is actually a sugar alcohol, and is metabolized by the body very slowly. Organic.

  20. Summary • I found this project very interesting. I found that there are many different chemicals, and organic compounds in various items we use in our daily lives. Some of the compounds are good for us and do some positive things for our bodies, but also there are some not so good things that we put into our body. I furthered my research a little more on Sucralose, and found that it is not all that great for us, it is not broken down by our body so essentially it sticks around for quite a while.
