  1. Creating a Test in Word 2007 Also creating and using equations in Word 2007 Jeff Klamm Tec 539

  2. Reasoning • In any class there are times in which a test is a wonderful tool. • Word has a nice way to create an interactive test. • I want to cover three nice functions of creating test questions. • My question forms will include fill in the blank, multiple choice, and drop down menu form. • Since I teach math one of my questions will need the aid of equation editor. • I will show how to create a fill in the blank section in a text. • I will show how to create boxes for multiple choice questions. • I will show how to create a drop down menu for a question. • I will lastly show how to use the equation editor in Word 2007.

  3. Setting up Word 2007 • Word 2007 is a little tricky. This process was designed for Word 2003 and when Word 2007 was created some of the functions were lost, but there is a nice solution. • Start by opening a new word document. • Format your headers, footers, and page layout however you desire. • Now click on the Office button, click on Word Options. • Then make sure Popular is click, then check the option for “Show Developer tab in the ribbon”. • This is the first big step. • Click Ok and the main document should return. • On the ribbon, on the far right is a tab named Developer. Click on the tab. • Now we are ready to start creating our test.

  4. Creating a fill in the blank • Create a question and place the cursor in front of the area that is intended to be a fill in the blank. • Make sure the Developer tab is click. Then go to the legacy folder drop down menu. • Click on the ab| button. • Then …………

  5. Using the Text form field options • Double click on the grey space in the Word document. • The Text Form Field Options box will appear. • Here one can play with options the want the student to see. • For example the student will see “Type Your Answer Here” because it is written in the default text box. • Click the OK button to close the window.

  6. Creating a Multiple Choice question and using equation editor • Press Enter to create question two. • Then press “Alt +” together to access Microsoft Equation Editor. (this is the shortcut.) • The other method is to click on insert on the ribbon, go to equation, and click on new equation at the bottom.

  7. Equation Editor • Equation Editor is a great tool. • Click on the fraction’s tab in the ribbon, in the structures area. • This allows the user to pick a type of fraction. • Use the arrows keys to highlight the boxes of the fraction and enter numbers inside. • Continue to use the arrow keys while inside Equation Editor. • To exit Equation Editor arrow out of the equation until the box and design go away.

  8. Creating the Multiple Choice • After creating the equation press enter and move the cursor under the equation. (this will take some backspacing as Word 2007 automatically places the number three after number two in a list.) • Next click Developer on the Ribbon, proceed to Legacy tools, and finally click on Check Box Form Field. This creates a check box • Then write a possible answer for the student. • Repeat the process for as many possibilities as wanted. • If changes to the check box are needed (like changing the size of the box) double click on the box to bring up the options.

  9. Uses in the Classroom • So far we have created a fill in the blank question, a multiple choice question, and used equation editor. All of these are great to use at any time. Even for printed tests. • The fourth idea to look at is usually only for interactive forms. • It is the drop down menu question.

  10. The Drop Down Menu Question • Create the third question then enter down below it. • Make sure Developer is highlighted on the ribbon. Click on the legacy forms and the third box which is Drop Down Form field.

  11. Using the Options for the drop down form field • Double click on the gray box to open the options window. • In the line below Drop down item, enter the choices for the answer. • I like to make my first one “Choose on of the following” • Why because the first item is shown to the students and this is a neutral choice. • Next I create the other choices and after each choice click add to put the item in the list of choices. • Press OK to exit the window.

  12. Finishing the test • When the test has been created the user/creator needs to protect the document by clicking on Protect Document. • The only type of editing that is allows needs to be filling in the forms. This is a box on the right side of the screen, option number two. • Create a password and the test is ready. • Next time the test is opened it is ready to be used by students.

  13. Conclusion • We have learned how to: • Include the Developer tab to Word 2007. • Create a fill in the blank question. • Use the Equation Editor, along with the shortcut key of “Alt +” • Create a multiple choice question. • And lastly create a drop down menu question. I believe we have learned a usefully tool and will have fun creating interactive tests and forms for our students.
