Write down what you know about Marco Polo? • Who was he? • What is he known for? • Why is he significant? • Read Chapter 76 from the handout you picked up…pgs. 595-597 • What differences between European culture and Chinese culture did Marco Polo observe? Which Chinese practices did he approve of? Which did he condemn and why? • Overall, what was Polo’s attitude to China and its culture? • Why do you think this account is so appealing to Europeans? Do-now Do-Now consists of two sections. Before we read the packet answer the first series of questions based on Marco Polo to the best of your knowledge. The second part of your do-now will be a series of questions based on a section of the packet.

Ferdinand Magellan Country/Year: Spain1519 Motives/Goals: Search to find route around Americas to get to the East Indies Outcomes: 1522 Magellan’s crew become the first people to circumnavigate the globe. Leads to Spanish giving up on East Indian Trade Spain & Portugal
