6. 背景 - 什麼是SmartBits • SmartBits 2000為一機架 • 支援Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, Token Ring, ATM and Frame Relay等等的網路架構 • 使用多個埠的封包輸入與截取 • 產生wire-speed的大量封包 • 由硬體產生的封包pattern形態確實 • 提供可自行設計測試項目之方案

7. 背景 - 設定AST與SmartBits的連線 • 將通訊埠連接線確實接在SmartBits的『CONSOLE』接頭與個人電腦上面的通訊埠接頭即可(如COM1)

8. 背景 - 啟動SmartBits與AST • 開啟電源→面板上『LINK』燈號先亮起而後熄滅→啟動完畢 • 執行AST • 設定AST的連線方式：執行AST內的[MENU]→[Options]→ [Comm. SetUp]，設定連線的通訊埠及速度 • 與SmartBits連線：執行AST內的[MENU]→[Actions]→[Connect]

9. 背景 - 連接SmartBits與待測物 • 接線作法請參考實驗十：區域網路佈線、軟體設定實驗手冊 • 最多一次測試四個埠 • 在switch上受測埠的選擇可以是連續或是亂數選擇的埠
