Hazards • Bitten, scratched, or kicked by scared or aggressive animals when holding, cleaning, or restraining them for veterinarians to examine them • Lifting heavy animals • Assisting veterinarians with euthanizing severely ill or injured animals with a low chance of survival can be a stressful experience

Job Description • Perform medical tests under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian to help diagnose the illnesses and injuries of animals • Observe the behavior and condition of animals • Provide nursing care or emergency first aid to injured or recovering animals • Administer anesthesia to animals and moniter their responses • Collect laboratory samples, such as blood, urine, or tissue, for testing • Perform laboratory tests, such as urinalyses and blood counts • Take and develop x-rays • Prepare animals and instruments for surgery • Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments prescribed by a veterinarian • Collect and record patients’ case histories
