Jill Foote, PhD, CFA Jill Foote is a Senior Lecturer in Finance, Director of the El Paso Corporation Finance Center, and Director of the M.A. Wright Fund (the MBA student-managed investment portfolio) at Rice University’s Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Management. Her principal teaching responsibilities are in investment management. She is also the faculty advisor to the Rice Finance Club. Dr. Foote has 13 years of experience from Goldman Sachs in New York. Her final seven years there were spent as a Vice President, managing a large group involved in strategic initiatives, new business ventures, risk management, and operational, regulatory, and financial audits and risk reviews. The first six years were spent as a sales associate in Fixed Income – first in Money Markets, then in Emerging Debt.Dr. Foote has earned the right to use the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA-Houston Society. Managing a Real Stock Portfolio • 2 courses (Mgmt 643 / 644), 6 credits, 1 year commitment • Admission – By Application and Interview only – details sent out by listserv after mid-term • Strong preference for students pursuing careers in Investments • Inv Mgmt, Research, IB, Corp Fin • Endowment • Estate of M.A. Wright (formerly Chairman of Humble Oil) in 1995 • Currently $650,000 in assets • Investment Goals • Achieve superior risk-adjusted returns • Fund scholarship distributions • Educational Objectives • Develop principled thought leaders in portfolio management Real Money. Real Objectives. Real Rewards.

Class Overview • Student Managed • Approximately 25 students / 12 – 13 new students each semester • Must be 1st year MBA, PMBA, EMBA to apply • Fulltime MBAs have two opportunities to apply • Fall 09 for Spring 10 / Fall 10 • Spring 09 for Fall 10 / Spring 11 • Class – MGMT 643 and MGMT 644 • Tuesday evenings – 6:15 – 10:15pm, Room 318, Finance Center • Sector Groups – Consumer Discretionary, Consumer Staples, Energy/ Utilities, Financial, Healthcare, Industrials/Materials, IT/ Telecom • Three students (elected in MGMT 643) serve as Fund officers • Mix of student-run activities and instructor training (approx. 2 to 1) • Student-run segments mostly research presentations

Credits, Assignments • 6 credit, 1 year commitment + 3 credits of co-requisites • Wright Fund I / II – MGMT 643 / 644 • Applied Finance – MGMT 648 – Spring 10 • Investments – MGMT 645 - Fall 10 • MGMT 643 – Wright Fund I • Focus on individual stock research and selection • Junior Analysts within Sector Groups • Assignments: Buy-side Deck, Sell-side Research Report, Performance Report, and Class Participation • MGMT 644 – Wright Fund II • Focus on sector and investment portfolio management • Senior Analysts within Sector Groups • Assignments: Sector Report, Sector Update, Portfolio Analysis Project, Performance, Report, and Class Participation

Wright Fund Activities • Additional class activities • Active Finance Center usage including training in Bloomberg, Capital IQ, and FactSet • Investment professionals speaker series • Asset Management Panel – Tuesday, Sept 22, AFC • Active involvement in Houston business community • Student membership – CFA-Houston • Compete in Competitions • CFA Institute Research Challenge – TX Winner 2007 • Portfolio Managers Competition Winner 2009 • Annual breakfast presentation to JGS Partners • Host and attend conferences • Texas Investment Portfolio Symposium • Hosted 2009, 2005 and 2004 (inaugural); At SMU – Spring 2010 • Houston Hedge Fund Conference – Hosted 2006 and 2007
