  2. Welcome Welcome • This training session will introduce developers to a set of modular building blocks that can be used in the design of DAQ systems: • The RCE (Reconfigurable Cluster Element) • CIM (Cluster Interconnect Module) • ATCA packaging standard • Systems assembled from these blocks provide adaptable, high-performance I/O on an industry-standard backplane • The training includes substantial hands-on experience with RCE and CIM hardware

  3. Welcome Locations • Today • All presentations given here (Bldg 13, Floor 2, Room 5) • Optional end-of-day visit to the RCE Lab in 32-S-B03 • Tomorrow • Presentations resume here • Discussion breakout session: this room • Hardware breakout session: one level up (Bldg 13, Floor 3, Room 5) • The RCE/CIM Teststand • Bldg 32, Basement, Room B03 (32-S-B03)

  4. Welcome Coffee Service, Dinner • Coffee • Pastry and coffee available in the room above the lecture room • Staff promised to bring extra pastries • Tonight’s Dinner • Hotel Bois Joly • Dinner will be 30 Euro per person • Need a ride? 8. Welcome Acknowledgements • Many thanks to those at CERN who helped us put the teststand together in time for the workshop • Fred Wickens, (always a great help!) for pointing us in the right direction and for always knowing what we want • David Francis, for listening and finding the right people to talk to, and for moving the ROD workshop • Stefan Stancu, for buying our switches and helping to install them in no time, and for many little things • Marc Dobson, for helping to set up the network and the PCs and for much good advice • Gokhan Unel, for finding and lending us the two PCs • Haimo Zobernig, Werner Wiedenmann, Neng Xu, Andre dos Anjos, and Sau Lan Wu, for kindly letting us use their rack in Lab32 and for helping with power and sudden a/c failures

  9. Welcome Enjoy the Workshop(Make it yours: Shape it to match your needs and interests. Be interactive!)
