  2. The Chinese patent documentation has formed an important component part of the global prior art From 1985 to 2010, the number of patent applications in China has maintained rapid increase. By December 31, 2010, an accumulated amount of patent applications for inventions and utility models in China has approached 4.75 million, including 2,330,264 applications for invention patent and 2,417,384 applications for utility model. * Data from SIPO statistics.

The Chinese patent documentation has formed an important component part of the global prior art • In 2010, the number of Chinese invention patent applications reached 390,000, ranking the 2nd among all countries. • In 2010, the number of Chinese PCT applications exceeded 12,000, ranking the 4thamong all countries.
