Approximation and Exact Values
In mathematics, numbers are classified as exact or approximate. Exact values arise from precise calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. In contrast, approximate values serve as estimates that closely represent the actual answer but lack precision. Often, using an estimate simplifies problem-solving and is sufficient for practical purposes. Knowing when to rely on exact or approximate values is essential, as approximations can impact the overall accuracy of answers. For instance, approximating a measurement as 4 cm provides a useful, if not exact, answer.

There are two kinds of numbers in ABC: exact and approximate. • Sometimes it is not necessary to calculate an exact number • An estimation is often good enough….
Exact: Exact numbers are the result of computations where the result can be computed exactly: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and some exponentiations. • Estimate: A number that is close to, but not exactly equal to, the actual answer to a problem. • An estimate is also referred to as an approximation or approximate answer • Approximate values affect the accuracy of answers
