  2. OBJECTIVES • Reduce dependence on fossil fuel • Reduce UVO to landfill and waste water treatment facilities • Apply carbon accounting procedures • Students become environmental stewards • Research applied in school environment • Rancid oil gains respectability as energy source

  3. PLAN • Collect UVO from students’ families • Obtain outside UVO supply to complement above • Manufacture biodiesel from UVO at Oak Hall School • Goal is 800-1000 gallons/year • Create operational/safety manual • Promote throughout community -schools, youth centers, etc

  4. CHALLENGES • Identify & satisfy permitting requirements • Identify & acquire spill proof, reusable collection container • Develop environmental stewardship attitude for UVO collection in school & community

  5. TIME FRAME • Build Biodiesel Reactor - Summer 2008 • First Production Run – Fall 2008 • In School Promotion – Summer 2008 and beyond • Operation/Safety Manual – Spring 2009

  6. FUTURE PLANS • Develop program to promote UVO recycling as biofuel throughout Florida -Collection sites at Boys/Girls Clubs, YMCAs, YWCAs, churches • Encourage students to explore alternative, sustainable energy resources and resource recovery
