  2. Electron Configuration • What is Electron Configuration? • Electron Configuration is a form of notation that shows how the electrons are distributed among the various atomic orbital and energy levels. The format consists of a series of numbers, letters, and superscripts. 1s2 Helium

SPDF Notation SublevelS = groups 1a and 2a + Helium SublevelP = groups 3a, 4a, 5a,6a, 7a, and 8a *not including Helium SublevelD* = elements 21 to elements 48, and elements 71 to elements 112 SublevelF* = cuts into sublevel D at element 57 to element 70, and cuts back in at element 89 to element 102.

  5. Things to Consider When stating an elements electron configuration, if it is located in the 5d or 6d sublevel then: you must state the f sublevel first. If it is located in the 4f or 5f sublevel you state it directly after the 6s or 7s sublevel.
