  1. Mathias Dutour NA62 Collaboration9th December 2009 DCS remote control in NA62: Equipment & Control Integration.

  2. Outline. • Using ’Supported’ equipment for DCS integration. • Use case: HYTEC Tell1 crate and ISEG HV power supply. • Recommendations for equipment selection. • Supported equipment/protocols catalog (extract). • Forum.

  3. What ’Supported equipment’ means for DCS integration. • Benefits for NA62: Save effort and time ! • Focus on the operation, not integration. • Get benefit from others CERN users experience. ‘Scale’ effect, trainings, showcases, guidelines. • Support and maintenance of control sw. is clear. • You are sure the functionality you need to control your device is available.

  4. Full chain of control sw. guaranteed. • Minimal effort and maintenance cost. Device DCS Device • Requires modification of standard solution and testing. DCS • Functionality and performance unclear. • Specific development and maintenance. • Cost !! Device Hw./Sw. DCS Equipment integration scenarios in DCS. Integration scenarios: Supported Not Supported Customized

  5. ISEG High voltage • Checked with the ISEG that our std. the control solution is adequate. • Required minor modification of DCS panels, configuration and testing. DCS Hytec Tell1 • In progress: Checking with Hytec/Wiener that the Wiener interface solution proposed is adequate. DCS Wiener Interface Use case: HYTEC crate and ISEG power supply. Integration scenarios: Supported Not Supported Customized

  6. Recommendations for equipment selection. • The equipment capabilities are important, so is the control aspect! Several situations could be encountered: • Equipment is in the supported –solutions catalog. • No particular problem, the situation is clear for performance, functionality, maintenance and support for the control aspect. • Equipment has a protocol that is in the supported –solutions catalog. • Make sure the equipment control sw. matches your operation expectations (functionality, performance). Preference is indeed given to supported equipment. • Clarify support/maintenance/licensing aspects of the sw. control aspect with the manufacturer. • Consult EN-ICE to verify that easy integration is possible in the control system. • Equipment/protocol not in catalog. • Clarify the availability/possibilities of the remote control solution. • Evaluate effort for custom-designed integration solution in the control system. • Consult EN-ICE to get support to design an efficient integration solution for your control system. (E.g. NA62 L.A.V.)

  7. CAEN: The standard CAEN high voltage and low voltage power supplies for the SY1527 mainframe The CAEN Easy system, including modules for high voltage, low voltage, ADC and DAC The old family of crates (i.e. SY127, SY403, SY527) WIENER:VME crates (CAN or TCP/IP) PL508 power supplies (CAN, including those with Digital Output registers) PL512 power supplies (TCP/IP) Remote Control Module (TCP/IP) ISEG: Equipment, covering the following hardware series: EHQ, EHS, EDS High Voltage modules and ECH crates. EN-ICE -Supported equipment/protocols catalog. VME, High and Low voltage PS.
