  3. Materials • A balloon model made for “Day and Night” • A balloon • A straw • Tape • A marker • A light source

  4. Method See Day and Night for instructions on making the balloon “Earth” Put a second star on the balloon to represent a friend in Northern hemisphere Answer the questions

  5. Questions • Hold the straws so they are positioned vertically. Rotate the balloon. • Is the length of day the same for both people? • If the axis was vertical (rather than being on an angle), would the seasons still exist? Explain.

  6. Questions 2. Hold the straws so it is on an approximate 23O angle, with the top pointed away from the light source. Rotate the balloon. • Is the length of day still the same for both people? Where does the sun rise first? • Where does the sun set first? • Who has the longest day? • With the axis on this angle, is it summer or winter in Australia? • Is there anywhere the sun doesn’t set? Is there anywhere the sun doesn’t rise? • .
