  1. FLIPPED CLASSROOM ACTIVITY PRIYA JOGHEE

  2. INTRODUCING MYSELF I am Priya Joghee, Working as Assistant Professor in the department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Bannari Amman Institute of Technology, Sathyamangalam. I wish to design a flipped classroom in the topic Clipper Circuit using Opamp .

  3. PRIYAJOGHEE

  4. Out-of-class Segment Prerequisite Knowledge: Sine wave , clipper, peak value, non sinusoidal wave, Diode, potentiometer, basics of opamp

  5. Learning Objective(s) of Out-of-Class Activity General Objective:To understand the operation of clipper circuit using operational amplifier. Specific Objectives: Students will be able to, • Recall Clipper. (S) • Classify the two types of Clipper.(S,T)

  6. Video Selection Youtube: Introduction to clippers (9:46) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttSxAdPM5XU Nptel (8:52) (edited using movie maker) www.nptelvideos.com/video.php?id=2440

  7. Evocation • Creative Learning Process Model can be Used: Learning by Analogy

  8. In-class Segment Specific Objectives: At the end of the class, Students will be able to, • Explain the working of Positive Clipper circuit. (S,E) • Differentiate positive and negative clipper. (E) • Demonstrate the operation of negative clipper circuit using IC741 opamp. (T)

  9. Formative Assessment 1 1.The circuit which is used to remove certain portion of the input signal is called ___________ a) clipper b)clamper c)peak detector d)Schmitt trigger 2. The circuit which is used to remove some positive part from the input is ______________ a) Positive clipper b) Negative clipper c) Positive clamper d) Negative Clamper 3. A clipper circuit is otherwise called as ___________ a) Comparator b) Schmitt trigger c) Limiting circuit d)Waveform generator

  10. Formative Assessment 2 6. The clipping level in op-amp is determined bya) AC supply voltageb) Control voltagec) Reference voltaged) Input voltage

  11. Discussion • The students will be asked to discuss the relevant topic among their team/other team/Faculty. The students those who have not taken part will be noted and kindle them to do.

  12. MIND MAP Clip off unwanted portion of Output voltage • Removes some positive part from the input • Removes some negative part from the input

  13. Summary • Clipper • Circuit used to clip off certain portions of the input voltage • Positive Clipper • Removes some positive part from the input • Negative Clipper • Removes some negative part from the input

  14. Stimulating Questions: • 1. If the potentiometer Rp is connected to negative supply, what will be the output voltage?

  15. Stimulating Questions: 2. Identify the output voltage, if the input voltage is higher than reference voltage in a positive clipper.

  16. JUSTIFICATION In out of class activity, students will watch the videos and know the basic concept of clipper circuit. By using analogy, pictures will be given to students and they can relate it with the concept. So while coming to the class, the students will have an idea about the topic and will also have doubt about the working of clippers.

  17. JUSTIFICATION In-class activity includes,Explaining the working of Positive Clipper circuit by giving them an activity with paper and sissors, Differentiating positive and negative clipper. Demonstration of the operation of clipper circuit using IC741 opamp will the done in the classroom using CRO. Then students will be given formative assesment so that they can analyze themselves and discuss with the fellow students and faculty. Finally they will be asked to do mind map of the entire class. Hence students can understand the concept completely.
