PTHS Literacy Program

The PTHS Literacy Program employs a dual approach to literacy instruction, combining direct teaching and applied strategies across various departments. Daily instruction focuses on a designated monthly theme, integrating narrative and non-narrative skills led by the English, Science, and Social Studies Departments. The themed schedule includes strategies like predicting, questioning, summarizing, inferring, connecting, and imaging. Teacher training is conducted during school improvement and early release days. Monthly literacy groups encourage collaboration among instructors to share effective techniques and refine instructional practices.

Each group is led by several direct instructors who share ideas with appliers. • From time to time, we split into two larger groups of direct instructors and appliers for specialized training.
