DNS recap/further notes • A domain contains one or more zones • Each zone requires at least 2 DNS servers • Due to the importance of name servers • Not because needed to logically work • 1 name server is the primary • 1 or more are secondary • The primary and secondary name servers are authoritative • A zone may contain sub zones • A name server can serve more than one zone • For example, it can be the primary server for one zone and a secondary server for another zone • Name servers should be on separate machines • Preferably in separate areas/networks
