  4. Was it successful? Work of some of the private sector developers was shoddy. Ramwell and Saltburn also found "high profile protests against 'HellwayHomes‘ (Bellway Homes) Continuing high levels of unemployment in the UK as a whole and the Greater Manchester area in particular. Asubstantial number of houses in Hulme being bought to let Historical presence of gangs in Manchester and in Hulme has negatively impacted on attempts to reduce crime in the area. Although crime rates went down in the early years of the regeneration of Hulme they have now risen again While the original mission was “the lasting regeneration of Hulme” (Manchester City Council 1993) it has yet to be demonstrated that this has been accomplished. 5. MORE PLANS

  6. Millennium Communities Programme

  7. Best scheme? You have looked at 3 schemes Docklands Hulme New Islington Which scheme is the best? Explain your choice by saying how it is better than the others You could look at Quality and type of houses / jobs / transport / open spaces / environmental issues / quality of life

  8. Built Environment Which scheme is the best? Docklands, Hulme or New Islington? Many architects believe that building a better environment will have positive impact on human behaviour. That was the dream behind the construction of the Hulme Crescents and now the new developments. What do you think?

  9. Regeneration Plan-this is an old chalk pit near Bluewater

  10. What would you build here?

  11. Criteria First decide what your aims will be. Look at the size of this area-it is over 1000 acres You have a free rein to decide what to do with this brownfield site. It is close to the A2 / M25 and Ebbsfleet International It is next to Bluewater and not far from London Every aspect of your design must be explained and linked to your aims
