Background Formerly the Gold Coast before 1957 1957- acquired its independence from the Great Britain and that brought about the change of name to Ghana. The word Ghana means "Warrior King”. Ghana is located on the west coast of Africa Boarded by Burkina Faso (north), the Atlantic Ocean (south), Ivory Coast (East), and Togo (West) .
