Psychological Needs Give an example of 2 psychological needs that foods meet. • Foods help meet include security, a sense of belonging and enjoyment, What is comfort food? • They are foods associate with feelings of being cared for and rewarded. How does a situation influence the types of food you enjoy? List examples • You want to please your friends and family. So you are going to serve food that they like or go along with a theme of your party.

  5. Social Influences According to the textbook, which social influence has the single greatest influence on your food choices? • Family

Available Resources Put the resources in order of the ones that are the greatest influence on food choice to the least and be able to justify your answer. • Money, Time, Knowledge, abilities, equipment, and a place to buy food List examples of how technology/food supply influences your food choices. • Do you have a garden-you can grow your own fruits and veggies • Family farm • Spoilage problems • Now –planes and truck bring food to you (keep frozen, already prepared, microwave)

Why does it have less influence today? • People who live in a particular region of part of the world may be said to make up a cultural group. How does religion influence food choices? • Religion is another basis for defining cultural groups. Members of a particular faith usually have a common set of beliefs and follow specific practices.

Childhood Eating Habits What are the risk factors of unhealthy eating habits? • Psychological problems, including lack of self esteem and depression • Breathing disorders • Bone and joint problems • Diabetes • High cholesterol • Gall bladder disease • High blood pressure • Stroke • Heart disease
