  1. Healthy Food Choices Write four ways you could change your eating habits to make them healthier.

Healthy Meals Make Healthy Bodies • Plan meals ahead of time • Less likely to make healthy choices at the last minute • Plan to have enough servings from each food group • Eat food that gives you nutrients you haven’t had • Snacks should be low in fat and salt. Natural sugar • No empty-calorie food such as chips, candy, pop

  3. Importance of Breakfast • Fast – to go without food • Breakfast – to break the time without food • Avoid bacon, doughnuts/pastries • Eat egg whites, bran cereal, whole-grains, fruit

Healthy Fast Food Options • Vegetables or pineapple on pizza rather than meats • Small burger with lettuce, tomato, onion, ketchup • Skip mayonnaise and special sauces • Order a salad with low-fat dressing • Order grilled chicken rather than fried • Drink juice, fruit smoothies or water • Skip pop, lemonade, fruit punch

  5. Why do we buy certain foods? • Appeal – statement used to get people to buy a product • Advertisement – paid announcement that is printed • Commercial – paid announcement that is on TV or radio • Both advertisements and commercials create interest

  6. Why do we buy certain foods? • Four ways ads are used • Tells you that everyone enjoys the food or beverage • Says that you deserve the best • Shows a well-known person who says they use it or it is the best • Brags about the company.

  7. Why do we buy certain foods? • Stores put appealing more expensive products on middle shelves (eye level) • Done to get buyers used to buying these products • Healthy and cheaper products are on bottom and top shelves
