WHY I MOVED TO IT • Studied medicine for 3 years in Iraq • Moved to Australia and decided to do something I love (IT) • Saw a better future in technology • Quick and easy pathway • Needed a bachelor degree and an exposure to academic life • Easy way to get money • Wanted to do something I can be good at Pathways to Success

  8. MY FINDINGS WITH EDUCATION • Easier to be employed when you have a degree • Higher income rate • More professional life standard • With education you get a career and not a job • Ability to develop and get better • Self satisfaction • You can get a degree from Uni or Tafe Pathways to Success

HOW UNIVERSITY HAS CHANGED ME! • UTS was a changing point in my life • Gave me knowledge and confidence in IT • Improved my English and public speech • Gave me a career (employment with HP) • Better rendered my personality • Improved my living standard and style • Exposure to academic and professional life • Gave me the confidence to stand in front of you… Pathways to Success

  11. CULTURAL DIFFERENCES • I realised that our new and old cultures are moving forward but we are staying behind because: • We are rejecting the new culture • We don’t have exposure to our old culture anymore • Solution: move on!!! Pathways to Success

WHAT DID I DO • I embraced both cultures • I maintained my habits and traditions in a moderate way • I adopted myself to the new environment • I mixed with both worlds • I increased awareness of my old culture with my new friends • I respected other people with their cultures Pathways to Success

  14. MY VISION, MY GOAL • We came into a new country, we are starting a new life. Why don’t we make use of our past experience to build a beautiful future • We are like a fish, if we see our future as an ocean then we can grow; but if we see it as a tank then we will stay behind Pathways to Success
