  2. Attucks,Crispus Articles of Confederation A half African, half Native American dockworker that died in the Boston Massacre. The Articles of Confederation was the first written constitution of the U.S.A and specified how the national government was to operate. American Revolution A fight for independence from Great Britain. Act of Toleration An act that granted Protestants and Catholics the right to worship freely.

  3. Boston Massacre Boston Tea Party A bloody massacre between the colonists and the Boston redcoats. An event when at midnight the colonists boarded three British ships and tossed 342 chests of tea overboard. Bill of Rights Benjamin Franklin Signed the constitution and was an inventor. 1st ten amendments of the constitution .

  4. Cabinet Composed of the most senior appointed officers of the executive branch of the federal government of the United States. Canal An artificial waterway Casualty A military person killed Checks and Balances The separation of governmental powers so that one government branch doesn’t get too powerful.

  5. Depreciate Depression To fall in value. A period of low economic activity and high unemployment. Dictator Drought A leader who rules with total authority, often in a cruel or brutal manner. A long period of time with little rainfall.

  6. Emancipate Embargo To free from slavery. An order prohibiting trade with another country. Emigrant A person who leaves a country or religion to live elsewhere. Export To sell goods abroad

  7. Famine Federalists An extreme shortage. of food. Supporters of the constitution. Forty-niners Fugitive People who went to California during the gold rush of 1849. A runaway or trying to runaway

  8. Greenbacks A piece of U.S paper money first issued by the north in the Civil War. Global Warming A steady increase in world temperature. Guerilla Guerilla Warfare Referring to surprise attacks or raids rather than organized warfare. A hit and run technique used in fighting a war.
