  1. Surface ozone in Poland related to weather types Magdalena Bogucka Institute of Meteorology and Water Management Warsaw, Poland Email: magdalena.bogucka@imgw.pl

  2. Data examined against the circulation/weather types according to 27 WTCs recommended by WG2 for 1996- 2002 Surface ozone data from Poland 4 stations (3 EMEP/GAW-WMO + 1 urban/suburban site) 8hO3 valuesfor 1996-2005

  3. WTCs ranked according to EV index, i.e. Explained Variation (EV, expressed as percentages) (method recommended by WG3) Surface ozone data from Poland Calculations performed for two domains: D-00 D-07 Central Europe

  4. Results

  5. Year – 5 best WTCs

  6. AMJJA – 5 best WTCs

  7. JJA – 5 best WTCs

  8. Conclusions, comments and remarks: • For both domains, results for preferred Litynski classifications: LITADVE and LITTC, acc. to EV index were not satisfying. • The additional calculations have to be undertaken and the results verified. • For air pollution like ozone, having tendency to increase during summer months, ie. with seasonal character, the best classification should be WTCtaking into account seasonality, like eg. CEC • The new method for surface ozone for the background air conditions for Poland should be applied (???)
