MPS Activity • Convert SOP into a specific manufacturing schedule • The role of SOP is to balance Supply and Demand Volume, while the MPS specifies the Mix and Volume of the output • Constructing and Updating the MPS record rolling through Time • A statement of future planned output, taking into account of the capacity limitations, production cost, and SOP

Bill of Material Structures for MPS • A fundamental rule: a company should have one and only one set of bills of materials or product structure records • However there are times when it is beneficial to have different structures that are based on the way it is sold with cost of maintaining different structures • They are called the Planning Bill: famous among them are Modular Bill and Super Bill (of Materials) • Modular bill of material: master scheduling may be easier but order entry tasks are more complex since each option must be evaluated • Super bill: average end item
