Selecting a Book Use a shelf marker, you can’t go wrong, Put books back where they belong. • Get a shelf marker • Put the shelf marker on the shelf • Remove the book • Decide whether to check it out • If yes, pull out shelf marker and check it out. Then put up shelf marker. • If no, put book back where shelf marker is, then put up shelf marker.

  3. Returning a Book to the Shelf • Use your hand to open a space. • Make sure the book is standing tall. • Make sure the spine is showing for all to see. • Make sure the call numbers are at the bottom of the spine.

  4. Checking out a Book • Choose a book • Go to the circulation desk to either Mrs. Major or Mrs. Marilyn • Give them your book and say your last name • Then sign your book out • Go find a place to read quietly

  5. Book Care Keep your books clean and neat, Away from all you eat and drink. • You should have clean hands when reading books. • Keep all food and drinks away from books. • Do not read at a table where people eat. • Eat a snack before or after reading. • Keep books away from anything wet • No reading books in the bathtub! 

  6. Book Care If you need to save your place, Stick a bookmark in that space. • DO NOT bend down the corner of a page to mark your place. • ALWAYS use a bookmark to mark your place. • If you do not have a bookmark, use a piece of paper. • DO NOT use thick things as a bookmark.

  7. Book Care Turn the pages with great care, Leave them whole without a tear. • Remember to turn pages slowly. • Remember to turn pages carefully. • If you accidently tear a page, please bring it to the library to be fixed. • If you find a tear, please bring it to the library to be fixed.

  8. Book Care Keep books safe and out of view, from little ones and dogs that chew. • Keep books in a safe place. • Do not write or color in books. • Keep books away from babies and pets. • If an accident happens with your book, please bring it to the library and explain.

  9. Book Repair • Remember to bring books that have tears to the library. • Most tears can be fixed. • If something happens to your book, come to Mrs. Major and explain.

  10. Book Return Return your books when they are due, So others can enjoy them, too. • Return books on time so others can check them out. • Remember to put your book in the book tub on the morning of your library class. • If you don’t return your book, you don’t get a new book until it is returned. • If you lose your book, let me know so I can tell you the cost for replacement. • Books returned during open check-out times need to be given to Mrs. Major or Mrs. Marilyn.
