  2. MLC Severe Weather • WATCH: This announcement means that conditions in the area are favorable for a inclement weather. • Once a watch has been issued the security staff will place signage on the first and second floor to let patrons know that we are under a watch.

  3. MLC Severe Weather • Warning: This announcement means that there is an imminent threat and shelter should be taken immediately. • Once a warning has been issued the security staff will make a public address announcement directing patrons to seek shelter in one of the designated shelter areas of the Miller Learning Center.

  4. MLC Severe Weather • The shelter areas are post on the emergency clip boards at each service location. • NOTE: During this time there are only two options for patrons in the building • A) Seek shelter in an assigned area • B) To leave the Miller Learning Center and Exit all covered areas including the Colonnade • These are there only two options.

  5. MLC Severe Weather • Shelter areas • North West emergency stair • Card swipe stair on any floor • Mechanical hallway next to room 102 • First floor classrooms • Loading dock hallway • CTL offices • Note the CTL office is a last resort, to place people if the other places are completely filled

  6. MLC Severe Weather • What can you expect • The areas that you will aid in clearing are the same as in the event of a fire system activation • These areas are located on the emergency clipboards at all service points. • Simple notify patrons if someone refuses to leave call for security. • Once everyone is in a shelter area staff should meet in front of the 1st floor west restrooms, and seek shelter from there.

  7. MLC Severe Weather What you can expect cont. Security will close the fire curtains over the grand stair case and lock the elevators down on the first floor of the building. Plan to use the emergency stairs of the Miller Learning Center ANY time there is an emergency evacuation.

  8. MLC Severe Weather • Once you reach the shelter areas • Expect to be there for 30 plus minutes • The official “all clear” comes from public safety and at times may take a few minutes. • Expect the 1st floor to be very noisy, so you will need to listen carefully for the “all clear” to be issued.

  9. MLC Severe Weather • Once an “all clear” has been issued wait on instructions. • There will need to be a quick check by security to ensure that the building is still Safe. • If the building has major damage you will be direct toward other campus locations. • Further info on severe weather at: http://www.srh.weather.gov/ffc/html/swaw04.shtml
