  6. …Title Page… (2 inches)Title(1 ½ inches)Your Name(as much space as it takes) CourseSectionTeacherSchoolDate(leave 1 ½ inches)
  7. (2) QUOTATIONS -the source of all quotes must be clearly indicated in the body of your text as well as in the Work Cited page -there are two main types of quotes to keep on mind -short (embedded) quotes -long (block) quotes
  8. …QUOTATIONS… Short Quotations -less than 4 lines of prose or 3lines of verse -embedded in the text of the essay -enclosed by double quotation marks -in parentheses you must write the name, source, page, or year…this depends what kind of source you are using and how you use it
  9. …QUOTATIONS… Short Quotations In Tennyson’s Ulysses, the hero describes his aging companion as “One equal temper of heroic hearts / Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will / To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield” (68-70). The narrator says, “One equal temper of heroic hearts / Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will / To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield” (Tennyson, Ulysses, 68-70).
  10. …QUOTATIONS… Long/Block Quotes -4 or more lines -begin a new line -indent (tab) twice -not enclosed by quotation marks -after the quote, and it’s final punctuation add the parenthetical citation
  11. …QUOTATIONS… Long/Block Quotes The major concern that arises as sub-national actors take places of power is as follows: Inside global cities we see new geography of centrality and marginality. The downtowns of global cities and metropolitan business centers receive massive investments in real estate and telecommunications while low-income city areas are starved for resources. (Sassen, XXVI)
  12. (3) PARENTHETICAL CITATIONS -even if you are not directly quoting, any information, ideas, and material you use must be cited in a parenthetical reference, (and again in the Work Cited). -You will always need the author, the work, and the page number whenever possible. -If you are only talking about one author or title, or they are already clearly stated in the sentence, you do not have to include those elements again in your parenthetical citation.
  13. …PARENTHETICAL CITATIONS… -separate name, title, page with commas (Williams, The Glass Menagerie, 98) -if you are only discussing one play and the writer and title are clear, simply quote it by citing (Act.Scene.Page) (2.5.125)
  14. (4) WORKS CITED PAGE -always start a new page for this -keep double spacing everything -remember to keep your header on this page too Fullerton 5 -center the words “Work Cited” -start each entry with the last name of the author -list the items in alphabetical order (based on last name) -do not indent at the start of each entry…but if it takes more than one, you must indent every additional line
  15. …WORKS CITED… Fullerton 16 Work Cited Callahan, Lance. World Literature and Culture Studies 1001: Sex God and War.Class Lecture Notes, Fall 2005. Davis, Mike. Planet of Slums.
