The circulatory system comprises the heart, blood, and blood vessels, including arteries, veins, and capillaries. The heart pumps blood 70 to 80 times per minute, transporting deoxygenated blood from veins to the lungs and oxygenated blood throughout the body. Blood carries essential nutrients, oxygen, and waste products, while blood vessels facilitate this process. Medical issues like heart disease, aneurysms, and high blood pressure can arise from circulatory problems. This system also interacts with the digestive, respiratory, and muscular systems to maintain overall health.

Anatomy • The heart, blood, and blood vessels (capillaries, veins, and arteries) make up the Circulatory System
The Heart • The heart is an organ that relaxes and contracts 70 to 80 times per minute to pump blood throughout the body. • The heart takes deoxygenated blood from the veins and, using the lungs, pumps oxygenated blood through many arteries.
The Blood • The blood travels through blood vessels. • Things like nutrients, water, O2, CO2, salts, and waste products are transported through the blood. • The blood also helps with bodily defenses.
Blood Vessels • All arteries carry blood from the heart to all other organs. • Veins carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart. • The capillaries allow for gaseous exchange between the capillaries and tissue fluids
Medical Issues • Heart disease, aneurysms, high blood pressure, varicose veins, heart-attacks, heart burns, vascular disease, and heart bypasses are all things that can occur because of problems in the cardiovascular system.
Aneurysms • A brain aneurysm is when the artery that supplies blood to the brain has a weak wall. • If the aneurysm ruptures, it sends blood to the school and can case a stroke.
Heart Bypass • Heart Bypasses occur when coronary arteries are blocked and those are treated by finding an alternative path to the heart.
Digestive System • The digestive system provides the heart with nutrients so the heart can keep beating. • The circulatory system takes the nutrients throughout the body through blood.
Respiratory System • This system provides all the oxygen in the blood that is then transported throughout the body by the circulatory system.
Muscular System • Cardiac muscle makes up the heart. • Smooth muscle makes up blood vessels.
