A Brief History • People were living in Korea 700,000 years ago • Kingdoms unified in 800s • Many dynasties, empires, government styles • Japan invaded in 1910, Korea belonged to Japan • WWII, Japan lost the war, gave up Korea (1940) • Korea split into two countries, North (communist) and South (democratic) • 38th parallel • Korean war 1950-1953
