  1. Superintendent Update March 17th, 2014

  2. Safe, Healthy, Welcoming Schools • Food Service Contract is being bid out as required by MDE. • Lakeview HVAC upgrade is being reviewed by MDE. It appears that QZAB money is available which will make this a zero interest bond. Work would occur in 14-15. • Initial indicators are quite positive on our renewal rates for Health Insurance

  3. Increase Opportunity and Achievement • High School Registration has occurred. Significant student interest in both the firefighter and certified nursing assistant courses. We are working with the City of Albert Lea to see if their trainers can assist with the instruction of the firefighting course. • In the process of identifying staff for summer Advanced Placement Training at Carleton College.

  4. Legislative update • Two Bills of Interest: • HF 826 Onerous Bullying Bill which would increase administrative paperwork and training on districts considerably- it appears that some modifications are being made to this bill • HF 2547  It would provide discretionary levy authority for all school districts currently not receiving "metro" location equity revenue of $424 per pupil unit. We are already over this amount in our referendum, but we could potentially receive more equalization from the state.
