  3. Increase Opportunity and Achievement • Attended a Principal and Teacher Evaluation session by the Minnesota Department of Education today in Rochester. New principal model will go in effect in 2013-14, while the new teacher model will go into effect the following year. Districts can choose their own model, or go with the state’s. 35% of a teachers evaluation will come from standardized assessments. There has been no best practice to come forward yet on how to evaluate teachers who do not have standardized tests as part of their curriculum. • District English Language Arts committee has been reviewing various approaches to instruction. A recommended curriculum will be forthcoming in early 2013.

  4. Effective and Efficient Operations • District Received an Energy Award from Alliant Energy. While the project cost the district $425,000, they qualified for a rebate of nearly one hundred thousand dollars. Additionally, they’ll save $70,000 annually by reducing their usage by 445,989 kWh. That’s the environmental equivalent of taking 38 homes off the electric grid for a year. With the rebate and the annual savings, they expect a payback on the project of about 6 years. • District has gained control of new HVAC system. We can now centrally control how cool or hot our rooms are at Hawthorne and Halverson

  5. Other • MSBA School Board Convention is one week later this year. • Alice will be making Reservations for Weds 16th of January through Friday the 18th.
