Homecoming, What’s the Big Deal? • It’s about school spirit, community involvement, and pride in what we do at GHS! • ALL of our students can be involved (K-12); GHS Alumni & community members also work to make it a special week
Week at a glance . . . • Monday: Dress up day “Dress up/Dress down”; Assembly Schedule • Tuesday: Dress up day “Twinning Tuesday” • Wednesday: Dress up day “TV/Movie Character Day”; Seminar Schedule • Thursday: Dress up day “Throwback Thursday”; Homecoming Parade 5:30, followed by pep rally; Powder Puff football 7:00 • Friday: Dress up day “Tiger Spirit Day” Homecoming Assembly 2:05 in the Gym; 9th FB @ 4:45, VAR FB @ 7:30 • Saturday: Homecoming Dance, 9:00-Midnight (Cafeteria)

Tuesday & Wednesday • Tuesday – “Twinning Tuesday” (come dressed alike with someone else) • Wednesday – “TV/Movie Character Day” (come dressed as your favorite TV or Movie Character) GET A SELFIE WITH YOUR SEMINAR TEACHER - Send it to Ms. Allen to put on the GHS Counseling Facebook page!! Seminars with 100% of their members dressed up win doughnuts next Seminar . . .
Thursday – Parade, Pep Rally, & Powder Puff • Thursday “Throwback Thursday/Decade Day” • Homecoming Parade starts at 5:30 • Pep rally to follow @ Central Park downtown • Powerpuff Football (after the parade and pep rally) at TT Cranny Field ($1.00)
FRIDAY – Assembly & FB Games • Friday, “Tiger Spirit Day” – Orange & Black • Homecoming Assembly 2:05 (Tiger Paws & Guy-Girl Dance, GHS Talent Show, Homecoming Coronation) * If your group wants to perform at the assembly (dance, lip sync, etc.) contact Mr. Covino or your Student Council rep! • 9th FB @ 4:45, VAR FB @ 7:30 vs. Oskaloosa
SATURDAY – The Dance • Attending school-sponsored dances is a privilege. The following guidelines exist in regard to dances: • No guests over the age of 20 are allowed to attend; likewise, middle school students are also not allowed to attend. • All non-GHS students must be pre-approved by the principal and signed up in the office the day prior to the dance. Personal identification may be requested at the door to verify age. • Students who are not in good standing and /or under suspension are not allowed to attend dances. Students with overdue detentions are not in good standing. You must check, double check, and triple check that you have all your detentions served before showing up at the dance. • Dance Tickets • Price is $5 per person at the door. • Non-GHS students must be signed up in the office by Friday at 3:15.
SATURDAY – The Dance (Again) • Dress Code for Homecoming: Dress must be tasteful and appropriate. Students may not wear PE-type clothes. That means no changing into your athletic shorts and cut-up t-shirt. You need to wear your “good” clothes the entire time. • Dancing Guidelines: Any dancing or behavior a chaperone judges improper and/or indecent will not be permitted. A student will be warned for inappropriate dancing. If the behavior persists, the student(s) will be asked to leave the dance.

Trick or Treat So Kids Can Eat • Grinnell High School's Thespian troupe #4274 is participating this year in the Educational Theatre Association's Trick or Treat So Kids Can Eatprogram. • Trick or Treat So Kids Can Eat is a national community service program for thespian schools to collect money and canned goods for local charities and food banks. Thespian troupes from across the state and nation are participating in the program. Grinnell donations will be given to Mid-Iowa Community Action (MICA). • The food drive will start next week on Wednesday, October 1 in Seminar. The drive will run through the month of October with collection on each Seminar Wednesday. Students are asked to bring nonperishable food donations or cash to their Seminars. The Seminar who brings the largest amount overall for each grade level (senior, junior, sophomore & freshmen) will receive breakfast pizzas. Seminar leaders will receive collection information next week. • Please participate - hunger is a very scary thing!
General Reminders . . . • School Pictures are Tuesday, Oct. 7th –we’ll hand out picture ordering forms next week in Seminar • Next week in Seminar (Wednesday, Oct. 1st) we’ll be doing grade checks for Midterms • AND, P/T Conferences are Thursday, Oct. 9th from 4:00-8:00 PM
