  4. ABSENCES • State law requires that parents and guardians are responsible for their children’s school attendance. • Please try and make appointments before or after school hours. • When a child is absent... • call office before 9:00 am • send a Dr.’s note after 2 consecutive days

  5. BIRTHDAYS • Treats should be arranged with teacher ahead of time • No invitations passed out at school unless the whole class or all of the same sex are invited

  6. BUS CONDUCT The driver is in charge of the students and the bus. • Sit quietly • Keep windows closed • Keep feet off seats • Stay seated until bus stops • Don’t throw objects • Don’t wave arms or object from windows • Don’t use profanity • Don’t litter

  7. CONTAGIOUS DISEASES • Examples are chicken pox, pink eye, ringworm, impetigo, and strep throat • Students should not be in school • Contact the building principal regarding school attendance • Students with head lice will not be allowed in school without a permit from the County Health Nurse

  8. COMMUNICATION • Newsletters • Tuesday Folders • Assignment Books • Bulletins • Notices • Parent/Teacher Contact

  9. COMPLAINTS Must follow proper procedure • Teacher • Principal • Superintendent • School Board

  10. DAMAGED SCHOOL PROPERTY • Students are responsible for books and equipment • Reimbursement will be required for any damages

  11. DISCIPLINE • Teacher is responsible for maintaining good discipline • Minor Offense - handled by teacher and student • Major Offense - handled by principal, teacher, student and call to parents

  12. DRESS • Disruptive clothing is not acceptable • Tennis shoes required for PE days • Snowboots for snowy/muddy days • Caps should not be worn in buildings

  13. EARLY DISMISSAL • 1:45 pm on noted Wednesdays • Make prior arrangements for student pick-up

  14. EXTRA CLASSES • Band - 5th Grade • Class Size Reduction - 1st-3rd Grade • Counseling - K-5th Grade • Reading Recovery - 1st Grade • Special Education - Pre-K-5th Grade • Speech - Pre-K - 5th Grade • Title I - K-3rd Grade

  15. FIELD TRIPS • Signed parental permission slip on record • Participation not allowed without slip

  16. HOMEWORK • Varies with grade level and subject involved • Consult with teacher if problem arises

  17. LOST AND FOUND • Found items should be turned into the office • Mark all belongings with permanent marker • Check lost and found regularly

  18. LUNCHROOM • Breakfast is served from 7:45-8:15 • Good manners should be used at all times

  19. MEDICATION • Medication will not be given without written request • Release form must be filled out prior to distribution (pick-up at office)

  20. NOT ALLOWED • No animals • No candy, gum or pop • No weapons

  21. PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES • Two scheduled each school year • Special appointments may be made

  22. PARTIES • Halloween, Christmas & Valentine’s Day • Small monetary amount provided by each student

  23. PHONE CALLS • Students will not be excused from class to receive or make calls • Messages will be relayed to students

  24. VISITATION • Make arrangements in advance • Check in at office upon arrival • Visiting friends and relatives not permitted

  25. WEATHER • Announcements will be made on KJAM 103.1FM • Late Starts • Closing • Early Dismissal • Operation Blizzard • Buses will not operate out of town • Rural students will stay in town at pre-arranged location
