  1. Taupo Cycling Club Track Racing Road Racing Taupo Cycling Club provides activities for cycling enthusiasts. The goal of the club is to encourage & develop the sport of cycling, through organised activities.

Track Racing • History • Have hosted the Waikato BOP Champs 3 out of the last 4 years • Local organised track racing every week • Used for training every week • 2012/2013 Plans • Promote a track festival – held Jan 2013. • Promote interclub events, primarily with Rotorua • Host club weekends – eg. Ramblers • Challenges • Once the HOC velodrome is operational, we will lose the opportunity to run the WBOP track cycling champs • Outdoor track restricting events to summer • Sponsorship required to promote festivals • Many members are travelling to Auckland (2x month) to get quality racing

Road Racing • 2012/2013 Plans • Primarily focusing on events for our club members • 16 events to be held on Motorsports car track • 4-6 events on the road using the Huka Circuit • Will host the 2013 Waikato BOP Road champs • Will host 2 Road races for the Interclub series between Taupo, Rotorua and Tokoroa • Assist with 2012 Taupo-Napier • Co-organise the King/Queen of the Crank with the Taupo MTB club • Host skills evenings, Junior training camp, assist with Cycle challenge training weekend, Avanti Classic, BikefestCrit • Club has encouraged Juniors and new inexperienced riders • Organised training rides every Sunday – Many out of towners join us

Road Racing • Challenges • Expense & difficulty organising events • Volunteers, traffic management • Lack of circuits close to town, which incorporate facilities and do not involve the state highways • Poihipi and Broadlands have allot of traffic for there size with minimal shoulders • Regional racing will gravitate to the Cambridge/Hamilton area once HOC is built • Get visiting cyclists on safer more scenic roads

Road Racing • Ideas The Taupo cycling Club does not have the resources (money & people) to pursue these opportunities • Taupo Road Cycling Open (1 day event) • More profitable to host a fun event • 2014 National Age group champs • 4 days of racing • SOI submitted by private promoter. • Elite Nationals (1 day Time trial, 2 days Road racing) • National coverage • Co host the 3 day CRI Junior tour currently held in Rotorua • Taupo 3 day Tour • Showcasing the Taupo surrounds • Based on the Tour of Southland / Tour of Manawatu events
