Facts 1 in 12 kids cut themselves 90% of self-injury individuals begin harming themselves during their teen years or younger Nearly 50% of those who self-harm have been sexually abused About 50% of those who self-harm around the age of 14 carry on into their 20s Self-harm is most common between the ages of 14-19 1 in 5 girls self harm 1 in 7 boys self harm People who self-harm say they usually learn from friends/peers/internet

How they self-harm Cutting Burning Interfering with wound healing (picking or reopening wounds) Punching or hitting oneself or other objects Inserting objects into the skin Purposely bruising or breaking one's bones Certain forms of hair pulling - In expert terms theses behaviors as non-suicidal self-injury but suicide also qualifies as a form of self harm.
