  2. You've decided to start getting serious about four-wheeling and want to learn everything you can? It's a lot more complicated than you might assume! Riding an ATV is a great way to start in Powersports and experience the thrill of blazing down a trail or track while feeling excited on your kids’ four-wheeler. But don’t underestimate the power and response of kids-ATVs and whether you're purchasing a 2-stroke or 4-stroke kids four-wheeler. Following a few techniques can make the riding easy.

  3. Wear Gear: ATV is a recreational vehicle! Wear the appropriate gear such as boots, gloves, helmets, and goggles.

  4. Watch Your Feet: Don't let your feet hang to the side. Step on the foot-pegs. Don’t forget to use nerf bars and heel guards. It will make you feel natural and let your feet dangle free.

  5. No Wheelies: the beginner ATV rider wants to perform a wheelie. Don’t do it as you are not an expert. Don't stand on the seat or grab the bar when attempting this maneuver. You might land flat on your back and possibly underneath your quad.

  6. Practice the Clutch and Shifting: Practice the clutch & shift just like you practice it in a car. A smooth ride equals an enjoyable ride so figuring out how to effectively change gears means you experience a smooth ride.

  7. Practice the Brakes: Most people indeed think ATV riding is a fast, exhilarating experience. But to ride better learn how to use the brakes and integrate them into traction control and cornering. And of course, how to stop.

  8. Ready the Levers: On the left side of the handlebars, there is a clutch lever, and on the right side, there is a brake lever. Keep a finger or two around them at all times, ready to press.

  9. Don't lock your elbows: Don't lock your elbows as it gives you less control. It probably hurts you when hitting a bump or other obstacle.

  10. Moving the Throttle: The gas pedal on an ATV is a thumb throttle that you press. When using it for the first time, press in slowly!  The riding techniques take time to use and remember. Every time you ride, grab the handlebars and drape your fingertips over the clutch and brake levers.

  11. Start Slow: Always start slow and maintain a comfort level while riding or speeding or wish to go on a complex trail. Use the brake and thumb throttle cautiously. Ride with an experienced friend or family member who can give better riding advice from behind.
