  9. Early Years and Phonics The proportion of pupils achieving a Good Level of Development by the end of the reception year reduced in 2018.The gap to the indicative national figure widened to -5%. Outcomes in phonics in 2018 improved by 1% to 81% resulting in the maintenance of the 1% gap when compared to the national figure of 82%.

Key Stage 1 Bradford’s Key Stage 1 results have improved in 2018 in the expected standard performance measures in writing, declined slightly by -1% in reading and remained the same in mathematics. The gap to the national figures remained at -4% in reading but increased by one percentage point to -3% in writing and mathematics.

  13. Key Stage 2 • In the main performance measure, the percentage of pupils meeting the expected standard in combined reading, writing and mathematics (RWM) increased by +3% in 2018. The gap with the unvalidated national average has remained at -4%. (-6% in 2016). • The proportion of pupils achieving the expected standard in reading rose by 4% this year resulting in the narrowing of the gap from -9% in 2016 to -5% in 2018.

The proportion of pupils achieving the expected standard in mathematics remained the same as the 2017 validated average, however the difference with the unvalidated national average has fallen from -4% in 2016 to -3% in 2018. • The proportion of pupils achieving the expected standard in writing rose by 2% this year and the difference with the unvalidated national average has remained at -2% in 2018. • The proportion of pupils achieving the expected standard in GPS rose by 1% this year and the difference with the unvalidated national average has remained at -2% in 2018.

Progress Measures end of KS2 Unvalidated and provisional calculations indicate Bradford is continuing to perform positively in progress measures at the end of KS2 Reading has improved from 0.1 to 0.3 Mathematics has improved from 0.9 to 1.1 Writing remains a positive measure but has dropped to 0.9 from 1.0.
