  1. Sermon • Summer Songs • “Rock of Ages” • Psalm 18:1-2 • 1 Corinthians 10:4

  2. Who is this man?

  3. Psalm 18:1-2 • I love You, O Lord, my strength. • 2 The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, • My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; • My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

  4. AUGUSTUS TOPLADY 1740-1778,

  5. 1 Corinthians 10:1-4 • For I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud and all passed through the sea; 2 and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea;

  6. 3 and all ate the same spiritual food; 4 and all drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them; and the rock was Christ.

  7. Rock of ages, cleft for me, • let me hide myself in thee; • let the water and the blood, • from Thy riven side which flowed, • be of sin a double cure, • cleanse me from its guilt and power.

  8. To be saved we must admit our need for a Rock, or Savior, much bigger than ourselves.

  9. To be saved, we need to be changed from within.

  10. But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),

  11. To be saved we need a Redeemer. • For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many."

  12. GOD IS NOT ASHAMED TO BE OUR REDEEMER AND OUR ROCK.

  13. “Moralistic Therapeutic Deism.” • 1.“A god exists who created and ordered the world and watches over human life on earth.” • 2. “God wants people to be good, nice, and fair to each other, as taught in the Bible and by most world religions.”

  14. 3. “The central goal of life is to be happy and to feel good about one’s self.” • 4. “God does not need to be particularly involved in one’s life except when God is needed to resolve a problem.” • 5. “Good people go to heaven when they die.”

  15. Heb 12:2 • 2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

  16. Not the labors of my hands, • can fulfill thy law’s demands; • could my zeal no respite know, • could my tears forever flow, • all for sin could not atone; • Thou must save, and Thou alone.

  17. Now that no one is justified by the Law before God is evident; for, "The righteous man shall live by faith."  Gal 3:11

  18. Acts 4 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "… 10 let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead-by this name this man stands here before you in good health.

  19. 11 He is the stone which wasrejected by you, the builders, butwhich became the chief cornerstone. 12 And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved."

  20. Nothing in my hand I bring, • simply to thy cross I cling; • naked, come to thee for dress; • helpless, look to thee for grace; • foul I to the Fountain fly; • wash me, savior, or I die.

  21. Col 1:19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

  22. While I draw this fleeting breath, when mine eyelids close in death, • when I soar to worlds unknown, see thee on thy judgement throne, • Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in Thee!

  23. THE ROCK OF AGES IS SOMEONE WE MEET- • He is the friend of sinners who provides the righteousness that we lack.

  24. ROOTS, BRANCHES, FRUIT

  25. The ABC’s of coming to faith – • A - Admit that you’re weak and need grace and strength – That means there is GOOD NEWS FOR YOU   • B- Believe that Jesus is the only savior who can heal your heart. • C- confess to God that you want to trust Jesus as your savior and Lord.
