Food Energy • Energy (calories) is locked inside 3 of the 6 nutrients • Vitamins, minerals and water do not supply calories (energy) • They act like “spark plugs” and ignite many chemical reactions that release energy from carbohydrate, fat and protein Water Fat Protein ENERGY Vitamins Minerals Carbohydrate

Conclusion/Restoring Your Energy Variety • Food variety among and within the food groups provides the many nutrients your body needs for energy Balance • Get enough but not too much of each type of food and nutrient within meals/snacks and at regular intervals of 3-6 hours Water • Drink 8-10 cups of water daily to maintain fluid levels
