  1. Linac4 Update 1 Project Meeting 14 March 2013 1. Updated Schedule 2. EVM (light) rebaselining 3. Linac4 at Open Days

  2. Linac4 – 2012 Progress Building and Tunnel CV and EL infrastructure installed RF network + 2 klystrons installed Cablingcompleted New 2.8MW klystron Machine components New ion source completed RFQ completed and installed DTL 1st segment completed 2 CCDTL modules delivered H- source CCDTL RFQ DTL

  3. Linac4 – New Masterplan 2013/16 Masterplan, adapted to limited availability of resources during Long Shutdown 1 (2013/14) Transfer 3 MeV to Linac4 tunnel Start high-energycommissioning (12 MeV) End high-energycommissioning (160 MeV) 1 year reliability run Ready for 50 MeV protons as backup to Linac2 Ready for connection Options for connection to the PS Booster: a) Long Shutdown 2 (2018?) or b) intermediatelengthshut-down after end 2016

  4. Masterplan – Whatis new New with respect to the Masterplan of June 2012, adapted to LS1 6 months (3 more) for 3 MeV recommissioning in tunnel (more time for measurements + match delayedstart of LS1) Betterdefinition of 2 transfer line phases and activities Beam test time foreseen for eg. PSB stripper tests Clearseparationbetweenbeamcommissioning phases (red) and installation/HW commissioning phases (blue) Keepflexibilityat the end to adapt to anyconnectionschedule

  5. Organisation • Only one major change: Jean-Baptiste Lallement replaces Christian Carli (who has been nominated Project Leader for ELENA) as WP Holder for the Transfer Line Workpackage. Best wishes of success to Christian, and thanks to Jean-Baptiste for havingaccepted to extendfrom the «intertanks» to a quitelargerintertank section…

  6. Linac4 – spending profile (MCHF) • «smooth» curvebecause of manpower limitations • new profile (green): end of «normal» budgets in 2015 (extensions to 2016 willbe possible) + «bump» for the connection in 2018 (a few budgets willremain active). • An operation budget from 2016 isbeingrequested by BE (and by the otherDepartments).

  7. EVM – where are we ? • Very good agreement betweenEarned Value and ActualCost • Large delays (seepreviousslide) which are not realistic: • long WUsstartedlongtime in the pastwitha verylowearned value but a high accumulatedplanned value. EVM reportingis not toobad, but shouldimprove: 50% of WU are up-to-date, for 15% reportingislate, for 35% isverylate (>3 months): Buzio, Brunner, Lopez-H., Broere, Coupard, Carli, Baudrenghien, Vandoni, Raich, Kozsar

  8. A light EVM rebaselining • ACTIONS 2013: • Modifyonly few individualWUsthat are obsolete. • Adjustonly the dates in the WUsthat show a large delay (for a large cost). • Organise individual meetings with few criticalWPs: • Acc. Structures / HPRF / LLRF / BI / Tr. Line / Magnets / … • and correct the WP on the spot.

  9. Linac4 at the Open Day Proposal for visits to Linac4 for the CERN Open Days (28-29.9.2013): Free visit of the hall (accessonly to platform), with an exhibition of equipment and possible conference/slide show Guided tour of tunnel (groups of 12 with a guide, only 2 groups at the same time, ≈100 p/hour) - 3 MeV installed (and running?), some CCDTL, 1 PIMS. Need about 10 volunteersfor the tunnel visits(half a dayeach on Saturday or Sunday). More isbetter!

  11. Conclusions Thanks to all for thisoutstandingresult !
